Egads. My legs are still sore. But I think rather then let the work week hit me and suddenly realize its Thursday night, I figured I would post the placeholder for the coming week run for the group.

I’m taking requests this week. I learned my lesson from last week. (Well probably not, but I’m going to lay low for awhile.)

I heard the American Tobacco Trail mentioned on Saturday. That gets me a lot closer to this coffee shop (shameless plug for the best Java in the Triangle). Did I mention that the ATT is pretty flat?
Flat is good. I like flat. Hey I figure if they made it so a train can make it up the trail, I have a better then average chance of making it up the hill myself.

In any case, post your requests below and I will update to the “official” run by Thursday night.

Best coffee in the triangle sounds good to me. Flat run with endorphens, and then caffine. Who is in?
Plus it is close to work for me, which I have to be at at 9:45. I will be swimming at 10:30 if anyone is up for it.

A caffine and endorphine cocktail sounds great for Sat. a.m. Is that served with celery? Really enjoyed my inaugural run with the group. Rob-thanks for the invite!

That sounds like a good run to me. The ATT is as flat as you can get and very soft on the joints. And it has distance markers. Does that suit everyone? I can pull up directions from some old emails if that is what we want to run.

If we do ATT this weekend we really need to consider going back to Shelley the next couple. Shelley is easier for Anita and Steve. Maybe John M. can do a bit too. We miss you guys….. will you come to ATT?
    There will be coffee!

We must be wusses if we are doing ATT this weekend instead of my little neighborhood romp. Be sure to check outlast year’s video:

    About
In 2004, NC State Sophomore Chris McCoy came up with a challenge. He would gather some friends at the NC State belltower and begin a run toward downtown Raleigh. His jog would take him two miles downhill to the Raleigh Krispy Kreme bakery. There they would each consume 1 dozen of the legendary hot glazed doughnuts. The group would then run back to the belltower to finish the race.

All in less than an hour.

The run was only a rumor, until December 2004. The Saturday before exams, while most were recovering from the traditional Hillsborough Hike, Peyton Hassinger and Greg Mulholland gathered some friends to complete the Challenge. About 10 students participated and the day’s winner was Ben Gaddy, who completed the Challenge with a record time of 34 minutes, 27 seconds. The Challenge made it into the pages of Sports Illustrated: On Campus (see #85), which helped spread the word about this crazy idea. The second annual Krispy Kreme Challenge took place in January of 2006. The event was huge- much bigger than the organizers had expected. Over 150 runners participated, with at least 40 runners completing the challenge! The event raised $800 for the North Carolina Children’s Hospital.

This year, we expect even more runners. To accommodate the masses, we are reorganizing the race structure. We will have only two starts- one for competitive runners and one for casual runners. That means all the runners will be racing down Peace Street at the same time! Also, we’ve introduced the idea of teams. Organize a group of your friends, come up with a team name, and race together. Teams will be recognized based on both time and enthusiasm.

The Krispy Kreme Challenge is more than a gastric and physical endurance test. Any proceeds will go to support the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Come and take the challenge: run for the kids.

    Rap Master Sass –

The Krispy Kreme race looks awesome! Anytime you can combine massive quantities of food and running, that’s a good thing!

I actually need to drop Allison off at Broughton H.S. at 7:30 a.m., so I’ll miss our weekly group run. I might sign up (if you’re going to sign up) since I’ll already be in the neighborhood and perhaps get a few extra miles in before the race. I’ll sign-up for the Krispy category…no way I can eat a dozen doughnuts, but I could always eat a few. Again, let me know if you’re serious.

P.S. I look forward to seeing everyone on February 3.

So………Terp and Rap Master Sass…..are you guys going to step up to the Krispy Kreme challenge????? You guys should do the race to show all those wussy college runners how it is done! Remember….no puking allowed….your representing the Mitterling Group. Can’t wait to see the t-shirt from this race!

I’m in for the group run on the ATT….with the rest of the wusses. See you at 6:30 …. in the dark.

Everyone, For those running the ATT Saturday, let’s do the usual and meet at the Kroger on the corner of 55 and High House. I suggest we meet there at 6:25 and then travel together to the trail. Here are the directions:

Directions from North Raleigh to the Cary Kroger Meeting Location: I-540 to Aviation Parkway toward RDU; cross over I-40 and continue on Aviation (becomes Morrisville-Carpenter Rd.when you cross Chapel Hill Rd./Hwy 54) to Hwy 55. Turn left on Hwy 55 to High House Road (about 2 miles); on the left you will see a Kroger Shopping Center; we can park in the Kroger lot near High House and carpool from there. There is very limited parking at the trail start until 8AM when the parking lot is opened. The start of the trail is about 2 miles from the Kroger Shopping Center.

    2/3 Run:
As for our Saturday run on February 3, let’s do as Kendal suggests and return to Shelley Lake. For those of you who can’t join us on the ATT, please come to Shelley Lake on 2/3! Thanks.

Sorry — I was joking. There’s no way I can do a morning workout on only 12 doughnuts. I’ll try to make the ATT, if my alarm is working.
