Saturday Jan 20 Run

January 16th, 2007 · 10 Comments

Location: Black Creek Greenway to Airport Overlook- Umstead

Time: 6:30 AM

Miles: 5 – 10 or more.

Terrain: Mostly flat hard-packed dirt and asphalt.

Weather Forecast: Mostly cloudy. Hi: low 40s. Lo: high 20s.

Directions to Run Start:

  • Take the Harrison Ave exit (#287) off I-40 and head toward Weston Parkway/SAS/Cary (instead of entrance to Umstead).
  • Go about 1/2 mile and turn right on Weston Parkway (after shopping center with Sam’s Club and Chick-Fil-A). In less than a mile, you will come to Old Reedy Creek Road. There is a sign for a business named Dyosynth at the road.
  • Turn right on Old Reedy Creek Road and go down the hill, past the water treatment plant, across the bridge, and up the hill until you see Lake Crabtree on your left.
  • Park along the side of the road just BEFORE the “Overpass to Nowhere”.

Click here for a Google map which is close – do we actually go back over 40?  Answer:  YES.  We will run across the overpass and continue into Umstead- pretty cool.

Bring:  Smiling faces for group photo afterwards!

For A minute there I thought I had the wrong running group, but no it is just our witty sense of humor. Alone with the Starbucks and communial gathering at the end, I look forward to picking up all those endorphins along the way of a 10 miler this Saturday. Terp is in…. Where are we meeting????

Actually I thought Rama’s workout suggestion sounded pretty good….run for 10 minutes …Starbucks for 1 hour….sounds like a good brick workout to me! Combining Terp’s request for a 10 mile run and MissyThang’s request for something flat, Alex’s suggestion to run the Black Creek Trail and Airport Overlook Trail might just fit the bill! How about meeting at our usual time (6:30AM) on Reedy Creek Road….just before the “I-40 Overpass to Nowhere”. People that want to run less than 10 miles can skip the Airport Overlook loop. Here are directions on how to get to the parking location. Call my cell on Sat. morning if you have questions (522-7032).

That sounds like a great run. Alas, it will be a great, cold run. But flat with a slight downhill on the way back. Plus, it is very close to Starbucks! Did I mention how cool this blog is?Rama, My apologies for not catching your joke. I am a bit (okay, very) slow. Sorry. See everyone Saturday.
