Saturday Group Run – Jan 20 Recap

January 20th, 2007 · 7 Comments

so if i wasnt cold enough when i got out of the car, 3 or 4 unnecessarily friendly *WET* dogs came running up to us as we gathered in the pre-dawn darkness. im sure they were thinking, ‘hey smootchies, watch this… im gonna run up and act all friendly and then *shake* all over them… kikiki… watch!’ i think i saw two dogs high five each other after they ran off.

Saturday Raleigh Group Run - Crabtree Lake anyways, it wasnt that cold. but i had to wear polypro socks as gloves as i havent upgraded my running equipment in the last, um, well, ever. rei here i come to plunk down some coin on some gloves, a hat, and some of those anti-gravity boots we talked about.

i will update the post (maybe) with a flash video of a short clip i took. again, more geek then jock but thats why the running club pays me the great salary they do. i know its not my pace-setting skills.

alex, kendal and karen continued to tighten the screws on anyone who showed a hint of interest in the october half-iron man in christophes new part of the country. arizona in october sounds pretty good to me. apparently he is going to put pink&purple lace streamers from alexs handlebars.

we all voted that rap master sass is the best username so far. we also agreed that alex is in desperate need of a good handle as well. im comfy with admin for the moment.

finally, we talked about getting a post up with the 2007 competitive schedule, and everybody could post their name underneath, so anyone else who might be interested could see if someone was already doing the race. the other post(s) i would like to see go up are the alternative workouts people are doing. if you are doing a private solo workout, we arent hoping to crash your party. but if you would like to post up an alternate run, swim, bike, weights, whatever workout, please create your very own post with the who/what/when/where.

I have to say I must have a little geek in me because I have been looking forward to checking out the new enters on the web site. :) This mornings run was filled with some new faces. It was great to have enough depth in our group to have two runs going; a 7ish and a 10ish. We start out together and laugh together, but we did not get to do the picture together. That is too bad but it is just too dark when we start. Ah… maybe it was that darkness that disquise the route we took. All I have to say is, “I missed you Anita”. Alex was great encouragement with his promises that the turn around was “just right over there” and his advise on cutting the corners really saved our energy. But it is always Karen’s laugh and warm heart that keeps us going.
By the way I did get a 1,300 swim in after. The water was nice but the lane a little lonely. Come join me next week.

oops. sorry for not pointing out the split in the group half way. my poor little cameras meager flash wouldnt come close to slicing through the morning darkness. we definitely need to capture more faces in the group!

Yeah, Saturday was so much fun. Don’t any of you skinny whippersnappers hurt? I spent the rest of the weekend creaking and lurching around like a hungover Mike Ditka.

That is what Rap Master gets for watching his GPS for a pace time on a long run. I always thought long runs were for “muscle memory”. Ask Alex what “muscle memory” is. I heard he looked it up. I thought it meant…. just go the distance…feeeeel the distance.
And Rap Master was hauling butt Saturday. You go!!!! You will be ready for the next Ironman. But you should do Arizona half with us.

I missed you too lit’l bit….but I now know that was a heartfelt feeling, now, that I have a clearer understanding of the run—Alex! For shame!!!

Yikes! The end was “just there.” I am fired from planning any future runs in Umstead.
