Oxymoron Alert – Easiest Ironman

April 5th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Ironman
After having a great time with racing last weekend at Azalea, I decided to go for an Ironman in 2008. A couple of questions for the repeat-customers. Which Ironman would be the best bet? Can anyone register for an Ironman or do you have to qualify?

Someone wise once told me, “Ironman is like potato chips, you can just do one”.

Dude, have you lost your mind? If you insist on craziness, I’ll be glad to assist you.

Anyone can sign up for any Ironman (except Hawaii). IM Canada is also problematic (you have to be present to enter). For any race in the US, you need to sign up by internet one year in advance. You can still get into this year’s IM Brazil, and maybe this year’s IM Louisville. Otherwise, be at your computer at 9:00 a.m.the day after this year’s race.

I have done Florida and Lake Placid — generally considered the easiest and hardest in the continental US. Karen can tell you about Wisconsin. There are others who can tell you about Cour d’Lene.

    Good luck.

Rap Master Sass summed up the Ironman thing pretty well. First….you have to be out of your mind to sign up for one. The fact that Rap Master Sass has done THREE of them says everything we need to know about him! Second….they are like potato chips….you can’t do just one. If you want to do a race sponsored by Ironman NorthAmerica then here is the general list of races from easiest to most challenging:
    Ironman Florida
    Ironman Arizona
    Ironman Cour d’lene
Ironman Canada (very difficult to get into)
Ironman Lake Placid and IM Wisconsin- Equally challenging…but in different ways.
You can go to this website and do a comparison of the courses and look at a full list of all races around the globe http://www.ironmanlive.com/events
There are many other IM distance races not sponsored by NASports that are good and worth checking into: Wildflower, Vineman, Eagle Man, and more.
