first of all, many thanks to alex hagan for inviting me to get out of bed at 5:55AM and go screaming through umstead park in pre-dawn january darkness on a saturday morning with a group of hard-core yet completely laid back running machines.
my first run was also christophe pla’s last – as christophe and family moved to the phoenix arizona area. sort of coincidentally, christophe was my next door neighbor.
it was a great run – i didnt have to do the walk of shame – the weather was superb (in the 60s!) – the banter friendly and entertaining (the hour absolutely dissolved) and we all headed over to starbucks for a post-run brunch sendoff. i think alex took some pics – alex send them over and i will post.
so here it is, the first post of the blog. i did what i said i wasnt going to do, which was take the liberty to pick a domain name. i couldnt help myself. i wanted to get something thrown up online as i had some extra time on my hands.
over time, i will get some maps posted which show our runs, pictures of the running crew, links to other related area websites.
what can you contribute? well anything you like! what would be great is for people to post their experiences of the run each week. postitive reinforcement goes a long ways. descriptions of the runs will help people who may be starting the group get a feel for what they can expect. how about posting your race schedule for the year? i havent even met john, yet i am already hoping he is going to be able to run his marathon this season. i am already looking forward to doing another group swim with kendall so i can get some stroke feedback. i have been petrified to get on my roadbike because i have been discouraged by the local driving habits and general lack of knowledge about when/where to go.
so here it is guys. please register and post away. at the least, email me about the weekly run (time and location) and i will get it posted.
the more we all contribute the more interesting and valuable our blog will be.

Aewsome! Our group scampers into the 21st century.
This is a wonderful idea — thanks for making it happen.

Our run Saturday 1/13/07, was coined by Rob as the “Bill Clinton Run”. We start at Shelley Lake parking lot, run to the McDonalds @ Crabtree and back. About 6+ laid back fun miles, but I have never known any of us to come back with greasy fingures.
You know we are a laid back group if we don’t mind having our picture taken after the run. Don’t worry, be happy running, drink Starbucks…….

This is great. We are now professionals. A special thanks to Rama for setting this up. Another special thanks to my 9-year-old daughter for showing me how to access it.
Rama, I will forward you some old emails from Karen that have a lot of directions to the running locations.
Now we need a group t-shirt. Something with a bunny.
Cheers.

I’ve been in this group for two years…and I’ve been waiting for a nickname. I decided to give myself one and use it as my blogger nickname…Terp (I’ll still use Rob for my day job). Terp is short for Terrapin (tortoise); i.e. the University of Maryland Terrapins. I also run like a turtle…slow and steady…so it’s probably fitting.
Thanks Rama for setting up the site.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. I’m up for 10 (slow and steady) miles if anyone is interested.

Many thanks to Rama for setting up our website…now we are official….and a t-shirt (with a bunny?) is our next order of business! TriRunWithUs is perfect as our official website name….and Mitterling Milers…has a nice ring for our group name (assuming Mr. Mitterling gets back out on the streets with us soon!!). Terp…..Glad you finally came out of your shell and have an official nickname! Can’t wait to hear more about the Little River Trail Run…..sounds like you and Dennis tore up the trails! I’m going to update the race calendar with my plans for 2007. Can people e-mail me or comment here with ideas on where they want to run and I will give Rama a calendar of running locations for the next 8 weeks along with directions. Thanks again Rama!

[...] Our web site turns 1 today. Thanks to everyone who has run with us or even just shared posts on the web site. It has been a blast for me, and I look at the past year as a turning point – meeting and making a lot of new friends and also turning the corner and getting back in shape again. [...]
