Guys — I guess you’ve probably all heard my brain surgery story, and if not, long story short, i got in a car wreck with a drunk driver over in G’boro back in July, which prompted me to go to an urgent care the next day for a localized headache, which circuitously resulted in my diagnosis with a brain tumor, which very fortunately was slow-growing and in a silent area of the brain. I had surgery July 29. Dr. Friedman over at Duke performed the surgery. I have since received a clean bill of health and made a surprisingly speedy recovery.

My band, Front Porch Sofa, is playing its debut show on Sunday evening at the Pour House as part of the Gorilla Productions Battle of the Bands. Music starts 4 p.m., there are six acts, we probably won’t go on until 6 at the earliest, we’ll be playing a 30 minute set (and hopefully some encore action if we end up headlining). 224 S. Blount St., downtown Raleigh. We will have a feature article on http://www.raleighmusic.com that will be posted at some point today or tomorrow. Also, we will play live acoustic on 88.1 WKNC (NC State Radio) Fri night at 7 p.m. If you can’t make the show you should definitely listen in. Or better yet do both!

Check out our tunes at http://www.myspace.com/frontporchsofa
Also, we’ll be releasing a professionally-tracked EP in early 2010.

I am doing so well and I am so very happy. My wife and family are wonderful. Work is wonderful. I have a new lease on life and I plan to live every moment to the fullest.

I can’t wait to be back out there with you. I’m up to about 6 miles again. Soon enough I’ll be ready to run the real distance. My goal is to run the inaugural Cary Marathon in March.

I forgot to mention — $8 advance, $10 day of show, extra $5 if you are underage. I have some tickets and can sell you some if you are interested. I may even be able to drag myself out of bed Saturday morning and meet you guys, or perhaps i can meet up with ya’ll at Starbucks afterwards.

Good luck to all running in Richmond this weekend!! Anyone running around here. My plan calls for 10-12 moderate. No real preference here – just would like some company for all or some of it.

Out for Saturday-running the 5k on the ATT. I am planning to go long Sunday however, probably the Turkey loop again, if anyone’s available.

Wow! Alfonso, I didn’t know all that was going on. I’m so glad to hear about your recovery though. You made my inspiration list with that and your music. (My wife just sent me an email to day from someone selling a ton of music equipment. Get my email from Squeeky if you’re interested).

My other hero is Mrs Terp! I hope everyone saw the article in last Sunday’s N&O. If we all had half her grit and determination we’d be running mega-ultras! Mrs Terp, we are eating your dust!

We’re out of town this weekend; running a trail run that might get changed to a road run cuz of the rain. Good luck Richmonders!

I’m planning to run from the BTN. I’m thinking 6 – 7 miles or so. Terp is a “maybe” as he is playing poker with some boyz tonight!
Wow…Alfonso…you made my inspiration list also. I had no idea…I’m so glad to hear things are good. I look forward to seeing you soon as you begin training for the Cary marathon.
