My long-weekend-out-of-town trips are finished so I should be available Sat. I am running long (20?).

  • 2 stabu // Aug 17, 2010 at 6:20 pm

I’m in for 20! Or something thereabouts… I’m hoping someone may be up for ATT as I am growing a little weary of hills right now.

I am up for 16-18 miles on saturday. I believe it’s 17 miles from the parking area at White Oak to the end at Massey Chapel and back. You could add the additional at the end of this loop if interested. what time are you thinking of starting?

  • 4 dr seuss // Aug 19, 2010 at 10:50 am

It’s far but ATT sounds like a good flat alternative. Does 6:30 work? I could be persuaded to go earlier since we’re going long. I also could be persuaded to sleep in longer so just call me fickle.

Anyone up for starting at 6? Or 5 if you’re feeling adventurous! :D Ok, I won’t go there – I realize most sane people like to sleep in at least a little on the weekends.

I checked mapmyrun, and round trip from the parking lot to Massey Chapel and back is 16.4 . Add to that a loop down to Wimberly and you have 20. Bonus points if you also hit the single track past Massey Chapel ;)

Bring your long blade to cut a path through this area…Since coming from north raleigh, 6:00 am would work perfect.

You guys know ATT better than I do, but I mapped Wimberly to Massey Chapel Rd as just a hair over 10 mi. Isn’t the other parking lot closed until 7ish?

  • 8 Avg Joe // Aug 19, 2010 at 2:40 pm

White Oak Parking lot is basically the 5 mile marker along the trail. Massey Chapel is 13.5 miles on the trail. So a round trip would be basically 8.5 mile one way or 17 round trip. It is 10 miles in one direction from Wimberely Road to Massey Chapel.
Since you are also in north raleigh, do you want to ride together? I can wait for you to finish your 20 miler

Good point, we could leave from Wimberly and make just one loop out and back. Just a note – the White Oak entrance is open either all the time or very early, it’s just the bathrooms that don’t open until 8am.

I’ll meet at either, just make the call!

  • 10 Avg Joe // Aug 19, 2010 at 3:26 pm

I am only up for 17, maybe 18 miles so if you don’t mind leaving from White Oak, this would mean I could run with you both for most of the loop. You could then run a little further in either direction from White Oak.
I always have toilet paper if you need any….

I could meet you at the Wachovia parking lot at Strickland & Six Forks at about 5:20 (yikes!). It takes me about 35 min to get to ATT.

Should we plan on dropping some drinks off at Fayetteville Road as well? 17 miles without any additional fuel maybe tough. There is a little parking area there but we would need to meet about 5:10 to make the drop and get over to White Oak parking area.

Have a good run guys! I’m doing my first bike ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway and hoping like hell that I don’t start going backwards on any of the monster uphills! See you soon!

  • 14 dr seuss // Aug 20, 2010 at 5:19 pm

Ouch! That’s a little early for me! We can try it out meeting at 50 ’til 6 (sounds better) this time. I’m gonna carry my fuel and hope it’s not as muggy tomorrow as earlier in the summer. Let me know, Joe, if this is a go — otherwise I’ll see y’all at 6 AM @ White Oak.

  • 15 stabu // Aug 20, 2010 at 6:12 pm

Good luck with the Blue Ridge ride, Karen – that should be fun!

I’m good w/ fuel, will have a belt and handheld so that should be plenty. See you at 6!

Good luck KarenG8r…and everyone running 20-milers tomorrow!

If anyone is looking for a low mileage option, Cramps are running from Shelley at 6:30 tomorrow morning. A few of us are also running six miles on Sunday – location TBD. I’ll post location tomorrow.

  • 17 Avg Joe // Aug 20, 2010 at 7:23 pm

Why don’t we meet at White Oak at 6:00 am. I may drop off a little fuel. My cell number is 919.802.2233. What are your cell numbers in case anything comes up?
    See you in the morning.

Bonus Sunday Run. I’m running with Dr. Feelgood and John B. on Sunday. Approx. 6 – 7 miles. We’re meeting at 6:30 a.m. at the Olde Raleigh Char Grill on Edwards Mill (in front of the Harris Teeter). Anyone else in?

3211 Edwards Mill Rd, Raleigh, NC 27612

I don’t see the update for a run this weekend. Anyone up for 18 miles?

  • 20 stabu // Aug 26, 2010 at 8:13 am

I’m wondering if we should just start a FB page for the Saturday runs or something? Something to discuss when we’re all trapped in the van together for 36 hours :)

I am running a bit shorter (probably around 14-15), and am going to run most of this single track (sloooww) in umstead. I have a loop sort of planned out, so if anyone is game let me know. I plan on being ready to run at 6:30.
