Look at this everyone! Our own STABU came in 10th women, 1st in her age group in this weekends open water “burrr” Raleigh triathlon. I believe she is off to a good season :)

Nice job, Stabu! Hope you’ve stopped shivering! I’m glad Bald Eagle and the eaglets are doing well too after a harrowing experience. Sounds like you had at least one guardian angel watching over y’all! Take care of yourself!

    Stabu, You rock!

I heard they used icebergs to mark the swim course.

  • 4 stabu // Apr 15, 2008 at 11:28 am

Aww, that’s sweet. Thanks . You all do realize that it was so flipping cold that the fast racers were smart enough to stay home in their warm beds :)

52F ‘off the dock temp’, 58.5 surface infared temp. I think Squeeky would have had to do a lot of jumping jacks before putting his toes in that water :D

Great job Heidi! I am impressed! The north pole acclimation training program is really paying off. Congrats!

Way to go Heidi! With that kind of “tuff stuff” maybe you should apply for next season’s “Survivor”… Congrats!

I am looking forward to running with you all again very soon! Along with some of you, I’m finishing up prep for White Lake half, so I’m really having to work around a lot of schedules to get my bike time. Lately, Saturday mornings have been dedicated to the bike, so after 5/3, I should be able to flip that to Sunday! Happy running!

Congrats Heidi! It sounds like a two for one. Winning your age group and joining the Polar Bear Club.

Is anyone running the Tar Heel 10 Miler next Saturday? I’m on the fence.

I’m in for our group run this Saturday.

    Herbs-
I’m riding 41 or so miles Saturday @8am from White Oak lot of the ATT, then running 3-4 miles off the bike right afterward. My pace will be somewhere north of 20 if all goes well. You’re welcome to join if you like. I’ll be rolling out just as soon as I can get in the gate and get on the bike.

Planning to run BTN through Turkey Creek loop Sunday morning early.

That’s very inviting fgump, but I have to take my daughter to her swim lessons @ 9:45…I’m going to try to get on the road by 7am…If this would work out for you let me know..Thanks for the offer… therbs@bellsouth.net

squeeky and i are planning a brick from jordan lake – so we can get in the water as well. maybe that would better logistically for you herbs?

  • 15 stabu // Apr 18, 2008 at 10:04 am

I may or may not be at the Saturday run, depending on Erik’s race stuff. In looking at our calendar last night, it may be the end of May before I hit another group run, between soccer games, vacations, and general family chaos. Hopefully that won’t be the case as these Saturday 5 am runs are making me a bit cranky :(

  • 16 rap master sass // Apr 18, 2008 at 10:55 am

Congratulations, Stabu! I’m going to try to out-cold you at the Kinetic Half in Virginia tomorrow. Wetsuit mandatory (that’s a new one). They have advised us to wear booties, hoodies, and gloves — none of which I own — with our wetsuits. Maybe I can pass my Zoomers off as booties.

  • 17 Squeeky // Apr 18, 2008 at 1:58 pm

I am going to miss the group run as I have to get on that bike. In fact, at this point, I think I need to learn how to ride that bike. I will catch everyone on the next group run. Good luck Rap Master. Take an extra tube.

And good luck Mitdog. It looks like you will have better weather than last year! What is your Bib No. so we can track you?

  • 18 stabu // Apr 18, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Looks like I’ll be able to make it after all – I’m looking to do 10-11, so maybe just an out and back for me.

Good luck in Boston MitDog and enjoy the polar bear dip RapMaster!! :D

I just talked to Lil’bit and it sounds like much of the group will be at Jordan tomorrow – I’m wondering if anyone is still heading out to BTN?

  • 20 Belkymd // Apr 18, 2008 at 8:33 pm

I will be heading out to Umstead @ 5:30 and starting at the Reedy Creek entrance. I have early soccer practice for my son for about 9 more weeks and need to get out early. If anyone is still running Umstead I can meet up with you for the last part of the run. Just let me know! Cell – 919-247-8544

  • 21 stabu // Apr 18, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Belky – that actually sounds good to me as my daughter has a game at 10am. I will be there at 5:30!

  • 22 terp // Apr 18, 2008 at 10:12 pm

I’ll be at BTN at 6:30. Is anyone else running at 6:30?

Good luck to Mitdog! Good luck Rap Master Sass!

P.S. News from Terp’s dinner table: the recipe on page 62 in the May edition of Runner’s World is terrific. For all of you vegetarians in the group, the recipe calls for chicken but would be just as tasty without it.

  • 23 Squeeky // Apr 19, 2008 at 7:21 pm

Terp, KarenG8r told us you were the sole representative if the MMs at 6:30. So sorry we were not there. I hope you had a good run. I was thinking that if we ever do one of these bricks again, we could get everyone to meet at Jordan Lake and the runners could do the Duke Half run.

  • 24 Belkymd // Apr 20, 2008 at 9:04 am

I realized that I incorrectly stated where I was starting from at 5:30. I started from the Reedy Creek Road entrance on the Turkey Creek side and not Harrison. My apologies to Heidi if you waited from me. I did run up the B&B trail to the Harrison parking lot and did not see anyone. I also went down to BTN and didn’t see Terp either. Besides not having anyone to talk to, it was a great morning. I’m glad to hear the tri crew had a great ride, run and swim. See everyone next weekend.

  • 25 terp // Apr 20, 2008 at 10:35 am

No worries Squeeky. You should have seen me. I was the fastest one in the group. No one could keep up with me. Actually, everyone is usually waiting for me, so at 6:35 I called KarenG8tr to make sure I wasn’t waitng for anyone else. Again, no worries…we’re getting into vacation season, tri season, soccer season, etc. so there will be a few weekends each year when no one can run at the same time. Lake Jordan course sounds like a good plan as an option sometime. I enjoy new courses. I ended up running approx. six miles of packed gravel and another three of single track. With the pine needles covering the single track, it was like running on a padded carpet – great for the knees!

  • 26 stabu // Apr 20, 2008 at 4:19 pm

Well I showed up at the BTN entrance at 5:30 – looks like we all had our own plan :D I ended up running at home though as I didn’t feel terribly safe heading out alone (although, a guy from Fleet Feet group showed up and offered to run with me I didn’t know if that would be such a great idea either…).

Great pics from the Jordan swim/bike/run Saturday – I would love to do a run out there sometime!

Wow, is Umstead perking up! I had a very solitary run from BTN through the Turkeys yesterday. Just me and 2 deer for 8 miles, before I saw the first person. Another 2 miles before I saw the second. It was gorgeous, refreshing, and exhausting. In fine Miler fashion, I stopped for a solo tall mocha afterwards, and picked up a tall skinny steamer for Mrs. Gump. But forgot the flavor shot. She was not impressed.
