Where: Ebenezer Church Campground Jordan Lake
When: 6:45 AM
What: Approximately 2 hour ride, 30 minute run, 30 minute swim
Why: Prepare for White Lake Half
Weather: Mid 50s to mid 60s for bike, water temp probably mid 60s
Cost: $5 (At the gate)
*** RECAP: Wow that was JUST what the doctor ordered. After a little triangulation figuring out where the Ebenezer boat launch area is, we all joined up. While gearing up, I realized that I hadn’t packed my cycling shoes. Doh! The Sandbaguette had a Book Club gathering and the ladies were muching on lasagna and wine until well past a proper bedtime hour for 5:30 AM roll call. Hence I wasn’t quite collected when the alarm went off.
After a 45 minute high speed multi-county cannonball run for my cycling shoes, I caught up with the rest of the group. The had gone from the boat launch to Pea Ridge and Old #1 and back. The timing was perfect.
Off we went down Beaver Creek, to Old #1 again, over to Sharon Harris past the Lineman Rodeo (you know, the electrical power pole jockeys – yes, they have a rodeo for EVERYBODY).
Forest Gump kept it well reigned in as I was trying to convince him to layup on Duke Half rather than do Pinehurst Olympic a few weeks afterwards.
Squeeky and I were still breaking in our new rides. KarenG8r was effortlessly keeping pace. Herbs hardly broke a sweat. Litl’bit put on a fierce pull as we rounded out somewhere south of New Hill.
After returning back to base camp, we did a T2 and ran 2 miles down to the beach and back. Already wound up for the swim was Supreme Commander!
We bemoaned our cement sacks for legs for the brief return, gathered our stuff, and headed down to the beach section.
Forest, Herbs and KarenG8r declined the splash in sub 60 degree water (I think it may have been as much as 61 or 62). I tried swimming in Squeekys hand-me-down wetsuit and we swam a couple hundred meters.
The weather was fantastic, the scenery and location ideal, and the company was top-notch. What an excellent end to the week.
More pics after the jump.

Sounds good to me. The main gate doesn’t open until 8am though…we could park at the boat ramp area, it’s free…and open 24/7.

Sorry to miss this fun. I’m doing the Kinetic Half in Virginia tomorrow. Wetsuit mandatory (that’s a new one). They have advised us to wear booties, hoodies, and gloves — none of which I own — with our wetsuits. Maybe I can pass my Zoomers off as booties.

You are going to have a great swim. You are an experienced iceberg swimmer. Have fun, Jon!
A brick and the boat ramp sound good, but I am going to need some chick power to hang with these fast boys. Karen, Heidi, Maureen….

You need chick power? Right. Now who’s sandbagging. How about if Sandbagger shaves his legs. Will that work?
Let’s go as early as possible so we can get some K in before are very, very brief (I am thinking nanoseconds) swim.

As fate would have it, I may actually be able to run with the group Saturday morning as Erik’s races may be canceled due to lack of wind. I’m with Kendal….I’m guessing I wouldn’t be able to keep up with you guys so I’ll be riding on Sunday.
Kendal – I emailed you (I may have sent this to your work e-mail) about a Sunday ride; let me know if you all are interested in doing one.
Enjoy the lake – you all are brave! I’ve had enough of the cold water for a while – I think I’ll wait until Jordan hits 65 before plunging in again

I do like male shaved legs…. at least I know I will be motivated to keep you within my vision now
I think Karen is going to ride, but we have only talked briefly. It will be confirm when she is off work.
Hiedi, you must have e-mailed me at work…. I am not there
I would love to ride on Sunday, but worried about the weather. I need to get a 50 miler in before WL just to know I can do it, even if I have to chase shaved legs. Come join us! You can laugh at our shivering swim at the end.

Great recap and fun photos, Sandbagger! I loved riding with y’all this a.m. It made me feel kinda like a triathlete again! Looking forward to a fun season with the MM’s!!!

Great ride and run gang! Sandbagger, I’m glad you got the “leaving the shoes at home” thing out of your system before White Lake. THAT would be a bummer! I never knew there was a boat ramp at the end of Avent Ferry…hmmm. Mrs. Gump asked what the most interesting thing I saw on the ride was (asks that after every ride). I had to say the lineman rodeo. One of these times, I’m going to stop in there and have a look around, lycra and all!
Good job gang!

Thanks everyone for a great morning. And thanks for helping me find my cycle legs. You all are great!
So Rap Master…. where is your recap? I was thinking of you this morning…
